Interview with Afua Cooper

In celebration of Simon Fraser University’s 50th anniversary of Canada’s first program in Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies, I interviewed Afua Cooper, who was the 2008-2009 Ruth Wynn Woodward Endowed Chair for the 2021 SFU President’s Dream Colloquium.

This peer-led webinar series draws from a pool of influential scholars who helped shape and grow the Ruth Wynn Woodward Endowed Chair in Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies (GSWS) at SFU.

It was one of the interviews I had conducted online during the pandemic, and it led to many more interviews later on. I truly relish this opportunity to engage with Afua and to help spread the word about the profound impact of her ideas. It also enabled me to connect my passion for social justice through creative academic conversation and find engaging ways to communicate it to a public audience.
